Lighting Dimmers, Daylight Sensors, Motion Detectors, Light Inverters
This section includes All Lighting Dimmers, Daylight Sensors, Motion Detectors and Light Inverters to suit Marine Lighting, Caravan & Motor-Home Lighting, House Lighting, and Work Lights.
Lighting Dimmers: Dimmers are devices used to lower the brightness of a light. By changing the voltage waveform applied to the lamp, it is possible to lower the intensity of the light output. Although variable-voltage devices are used for various purposes, the term dimmer is generally reserved for those intended to control light output from resistive incandescent, halogen, and (more recently) compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) and light-emitting diodes (LEDs). More specialized equipment is needed to dim fluorescent, mercury vapor, solid state and other arc lighting.
Daylight Sensors: A Daylight Sensor or Dusk to Dawn sensor is a device which senses the ambient light level and will switch external devices on/off at night and in the morning
Motion Detector: A motion detector is a device that detects moving objects, particularly people. A motion detector is often integrated as a component of a system that automatically performs a task or alerts a user of motion in an area. Motion detectors form a vital component of security, automated lighting control, home control, energy efficiency, and other useful systems.
Light Inverter: A CCFL inverter is an electrical inverter that supplies alternating current power to a cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL). CCFLs are often used as inexpensive light units in electrical devices that are powered by direct current sources such as batteries. CCFL inverters are small, have switchover efficiency over 80%, and offer adjustable output of light. They are widely used for backlights for LCDs, or for rear lighting in advertising signs.
Intervolt
Since 1989, Amelec Australia has been a major importer and distributor of specialised electrical and electronic equipment for the marine and automotive industries.
In the year 2000, they recognized the need for high quality, marine grade, voltage converters to service the 24V – 12V DC power conversion market. Unable to source a suitable product from Australia or overseas, they embarked on an ambitious project to develop and produce their own range for the commercial marine market.
Their first interVOLT product, the Maxi SVC Series was born and introduced to the market in May 2001.
Since then they have introduced their acclaimed range of DC-DC Power Conditioners, Battery Equalisers, Voltage Stabilisers and Lighting Dimmers in both Maxi and Mini Series. More recently they released our innovative PSR Series Programmable Voltage Sensing Relays, our high performance, compact range of voltage stabilisers and our world first – the EBI Pro, a programmable solid state dual battery controller.
They are housed in their new R&D centre in Western Australia and continue with the design and development of exciting and innovative projects for the specialised DC market. With the new projects they have under development and their philosophy to maintain quality-at-value products we are confident of interVOLT becoming an international name in the power management and conversion market in the near future.
InterVOLT SLD Mini Series
InterVOLT SLD Mini Series electronic lighting dimmers are an innovative solution to an age old problem.
The dimming of DC lighting circuits at an affordable price has always been an issue.
The SLD Series overcomes this with an innovative design packed with features to ensure reliability, longevity and safety.
Housed in interVOLT’s new Mini Series enclosure which is not only stylish but compact, efficient and installer friendly.
Designed for any 12 or 24 Volt application where dimming of DC operated filament lamps is desirable including boats and yachts, motor homes and caravans, buses and coaches.
Features:
Diagnostics: Unique to interVOLT, is the self diagnosing electronics. This design provides valuable feedback to installers and operators alike. An LED displays the system status and will indicate standby power, lamp load connected (lights on), over temperature and output short circuit.
Protection: interVOLT dimmers feature a host of devices designed to protect the electronics from various connection and application problems. The dimmers are protected against, short circuit, over temperature and an internal fuse protects the electronics in the event of component failure.
Memory: All interVOLT dimmers have an integrated device which stores data for various functions including the memory feature. The memory function records the current ‘brightness’ setting when the lights are switched off, so that same ‘brightness’ is resumed when turned on again.
Soft Starting: A special feature of interVOLT dimmers is the soft start function. High inrush current diminishes the life of common filament lamps. This feature controls the start up power by limiting the in-rush current, considerably extending the bulb life.
Safety: An innovative feature of our dimmers is the temperature failsafe mode. Most electronic dimmers either fail or shutdown on temperature overload. interVOLT dimmers are programmed to dim the lighting circuit to 50% of full load if the electronics should overheat.
Parallel Connection: Another innovation is the master/slave function. Each interVOLT dimmer is in itself a dual purpose device. Rather than purchasing individual master and slave units the interVOLT dimmers can be made into either by simply using the master/slave slide switch.

InterVOLT SLD DuoDim Mini Series
The latest product in InterVOLT's dimmer line-up is the innovative DuoDim dual channel (2 Group) electronic dimmer for 12V and 24V DC applications.
The new DuoDim is a true two channel dimmer with separate control and monitoring for each circuit but can also be combined (grouped) to form a single circuit dimmer.
Features:
-
Unique dual diagnostic LEDs to monitor both channels simultaneously.
-
Built in memory recalls last brightness setting, even on loss of power.
-
Soft start feature limits current to protect lamps from premature failure.
-
Failsafe design ensures 50% light output in thermal shutdown mode.
-
Dedicated devices protect the unit from connection/installation issues.
Diagnostics: Unique to interVOLT, is the self diagnosing electronics. This design provides valuable feedback to installers and operators alike. Twin LED’s display the system status and will indicate standby power, lamp load connected (lights on), over temperature and output short circuit.
The DuoDim has the added advantage of memory retention upon power loss as well – truly unique!
Dual Channel: The DuoDim is a true two channel dimmer in that each channel is capable of controlling and monitoring two separate lighting circuits. In UNGROUP mode the total power output of the DuoDim is equally divided between the two channels. In GROUP mode the two channels can be combined and controlled with one switch only thereby using the total power of the whole dimmer as one. Thus the DuoDim is truly two dimmers in one!

12VDC 8A Dimmer / Motor Speed Controller
DC speed controllers are ideal for slowing down pumps and motors or dimming lights but commonly use resistance circuits and are very inefficient.
The pulse width modulation (PWM) used in this controller allows you to vary the output from 0 to 100% while maintaining a very high efficiency.
When used on motors this ensures full torque is available at very low speed and the motor won't shudder at start-up.
Operates on any 12VDC system and capable of controlling devices rated at up to 8 amps.
The internal circuitry is fully potted and the control potentiometer is splash proof making this suitable for marine environments and other harsh conditions.
